Urban Hype is a Music Trio based in lusaka, Zambia.It was started way back in December 2011 by original members Lweendo Mweemba popularly known as Thee Ajay and Roy Zulu popularly known as Prince Roy who met in college and shared there love for music,they would often download instrumentals and rap/sing over them just for the fun of it and it was not until they met friend/producer Fumbani Changaya a.k.a FJAY who started grooming them slowly,and helped them record there first single ‘How do i tell you’ which features Thugga(Zone Fam) ,The single got some good reviews most of which where words of encouragement saying the group had potential,There second single ‘slow wind’ which features Fjay did way better than the first as it got some radio play and was played in most clubs in lusaka, Fjay later helped Urban Hype get signed under Music power house So’Good Entertainment where they met future member Reuben Sakala a.k.a Badman Shapi. Shapi featured on the slow wind remix and the chemistry was so amazing that the label bosses decided to add him to the group.The 3 recorded there first official radio single ‘Anything you want’ which features zambian dance hall legend T boy, the song was an instant hit and it officially announced the arrival of urban hype on the zambian music scene.Prince roy left the group soon after due to personal reasons.Thee Ajay and Badman Shapi continued with the dream,they released there second radio single ‘Freezer’ which made Urban Hype a house hold name,the song topped charts on 3 different radio stations,was play listed in clubs country wide,got over 5000 downloads in its first week and was voted afrimuzik song of the year! In late part of 2013 the group met HHP(south african music icon) at So Good entertainment Studios and as fate may have it he liked one of there songs so much that he decided to do a verse on the song; ‘Puzya Talala’ which was urban hypes next single and first single of 2014, the song also features Fjay and it elevated urban hype to international level as it brought in good reviews from south Africa and other African countries. The song was produced by super producer cashroll who also produced ‘freezer’. Soon after that Urban Hype did a collabo with Fjay titled ‘Lulu Haangala’ (who is one of the top ladies in the Zambian entertainment industry), the song topped the Hot FM chart for 6 weeks straight and received massive air play nation wide, with the success of the song and the amount of work Fjay was doing for the group (producing & song writing) he was officially added as the third member. Urban Hype has opened for international acts like Mi casa, mafikizolo and davido
urban Hype recently released there first official single as a trio ‘chimbilimbli’ which features and was produced by peezey cables,its currently receiving massive airplay nation wide and in clubs all over zambia.
